Stewardship - Corinthians chapter 4, verse 1:
"This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God."
What is a steward? The Call of Every Christian!
"What can I do for you?" are the questions of the steward and stewardess of an airplane. Their job is to provide for the needs of the passengers aboard. They are entrusted with the care of the passengers. In the same way, we are stewards of the mysterious gifts given to us in our life by the lord. What are these mysteries entrusted to our care? We are stewards of God's love, we are stewards of His Son Jesus Christ, we are stewards of our destiny, of our time, of our neighbor, of our Church and our finances, to name a very few!
The word "steward" comes form the Greek term, oikonomos, which refers to a caretaker, or someone who manages another person's property. The expression, "stewardship" is form the Greek, oikonomia, meaning economy, or the actual act of caring for the property of others.
The property we are called to care for belongs to God! As Christians, we are stewards of everything we do and everything we have; including our body, our soul, our family, our work our possessions and our whole world. One day each of us will appear before the Lord and give an account of what we did with our lives. This is Stewardship!
Does God notice our Stewardship? Acts Chapter 10, verses 3 and 4:
"About the ninth hour of the day he (Cornelius the Centurion) saw clearly in a vision an angel of God coming in and saying to him Cornelius! And when he observed him, he was afraid, and said, What is it Lord? So he said to him, Your prayers and your alms have come up for a memorial before God".
"May the prayers and alms of our beloved Stewards come up as a memorial before God."
